Fun Times at Work

Three ways to entertain yourself while on the job.

Having a job can be boring in most circumstances, but there are a couple of things that can make having fun at work really easy: interacting with your surroundings, conversing with co-workers and entertaining yourself.

Interact with your Surroundings

If you can, surround yourself with interesting objects, then you’ll always have something to look at or mess with. You won’t want to clutter your space though, so you’ll only want a couple of small fidgets.

These can be anything from a little toy to keep your hands busy to a silly figure of a kid riding a pig to laugh at.

A very common little toy that’s allowed by most jobs anywhere is just a simple stress ball. A stress balls’ main purpose is to relieve stress and anxiety but it can make sure your hands stay on task too.

A very cool object to gander at if you’re at a stationary place is a little toy called a Balance Bird.

With its beak, this little toy can balance on any point you put it on, and it just sits around and spins.

Talk with Co-Workers

On the other hand, one of the most interesting things to me is my social life at work. I’m friends with people ranging from my age to Vietnam War veterans, and hearing how they are everyday makes my day a lot brighter.

I especially enjoy the older folks stories with all their experiences and then reflecting them upon my life.

For example, a door greeter at the Walmart I work at told me a weird little story about when he was in Vietnam. He was told the soldiers couldn’t use shaving cream because the smell was so strong the enemy could smell it from two miles away.

My other friends at work that are of a younger age also tell me some pretty weird stories. These stories span from something stupid their parents did to how they got lost inside a Meijer at 2 a.m.

When I can talk to people who can somewhat relate to my life it makes the conversation a lot more entertaining. I also get to let loose a little around my younger friends because they know me a little better than my older friends.

Laugh at Yourself

When it comes to having fun though some little known advice is that you have to be able to entertain yourself to have fun. If I wasn’t able to laugh at myself during my dumb points, I wouldn’t be able to laugh at anything around me.

If you tell a joke or even a funny story and you don’t laugh at it nobody around you will think it’s funny either.

Honestly, I think laughing at myself is the most fun thing to do in all circumstances because you’ll think back and wonder to yourself if you actually said or did that thing and laugh more then anyway.

When I’m at work, I tend to get really angry or stressed out, but when I start to do something dumb like throw something, I’ll make a joke about myself and it tends to calm me down.
