Boone offers a cure to boredom that many students don’t know exists.

The cure is clubs, and Boone has a club for all different kinds of people.

Clubs like French club, K-pop club, student council, Spellfire club, FCCLA, and Art club can all be a way to lessen that boredom. 


French Club

The French club is hosting a trip in June 2023 to Canadian cities like Québec City, Montréal, Toronto, and Ottawa. All students and staff are welcomed to join the trip.

French club is a group that stays after school to celebrate french-speaking or “francophone” cultures. At Boone, there are many french-speaking students from countries like Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, and more.

It is a great way to meet people and learn more about the French language and culture, said Sinclair.

The meetings are from 2:30-3:30 in room 222.


Spellfire Club

The Spellfire Club is a new addition to the many clubs that Boone offers. It is a Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game that meets after school.

The spellfire club will be accepting experienced players first through a google form and then new players later.

Students with Dungeons and Dragons experience will be able to join first through a google form.

How does a student benefit?

It is a great way to enhance social interaction, math skills, enhance reading skills, and show creativity, Wilson said.

Art Club

The Art Club meets after school and focuses on structured art making activities. While creating art, students also get more information about art opportunities like programming, contests, and scholarships.

Joining is very simple, all are welcome. Just listen to the announcements for the meeting dates.

How does a student benefit?

It is a great way to broaden a student’s creative mind, and there is information given about the Governor School for the Arts, Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and other opportunities, Edie said.

When and Where?

Meetings are held every other Wednesday in room 119.


K-pop Club

The K-pop Club is a great club for those interested in music! In after school meetings, the members watch k-pop videos and discuss their favorite groups and artists, which is great for expanding student’s social skills and learning bias, according to sponsor Marcie Bridges.

Student Council

Student Council is a group to join for students who like to help organize school activities. They help organize activities like the canned food drive in November, Rebels for a Cause Christmas Shop in December, Homecoming activities in the fall, and more!

It is a great way to learn more about volunteering for the community, organizing events, and broadening social skills, according to Ziegelmeyer.

The group meets as needed to coordinate events.


FCCLA

FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and students help the community in this club and learn more about family and career needs. This group will be going on many trips including the Young Women Lead Conference at NKU, the National Fall Conference in Columbus, Ohio, and the State Meeting in Louisville, Ky. The group will host several community service events.

Students can reach out to the advisors and fill out a membership form, or they can just attend a meeting and fill out the form there.

FCCLA helps students grow as leaders, learn how to interact with others, and practice public speaking. It also provides opportunities for students to help with community service, according to Paris.

When and Where?

The meetings are held in room 101 on scheduled meeting dates.


Forensics

The Forensics team is a speech, debate, and drama team that competes against teams from Kentucky and all around the nation. The members compete in a variety of events by giving speeches about current events, performing comedic or dramatic scenes from movies, books and poetry, and more.

How does a student join?

Students audition with a one to three minute monologue or excerpt from a speech on a topic that is important to them,. If a student misses the audition they can go to room 108 after school to get more information.

How does a student benefit?

The group gives students confidence and skills to tackle public speaking. The group also gives students a group of friends that become quite close, according to Tharpe.

When and Where?

The team practices on Mondays in room 108. Additional individual practices vary.
