The coordinator of the Youth Service Center, Todd Humphrey, has a passion for enhancing student experiences that was evident as he discussed various initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and effectiveness.
“Depending on what we can do, we try to assist in the best ways we can to provide services or connect them with services,” Humphrey said.
Humphrey gave an example of helping students who were experiencing homelessness at the beginning of this semester.
He also noted the need for communication with teachers and other faculty members.
“The whole goal is to try to partner to create good relationships with our teachers and then that way, I can be a liaison for either the students or the teachers if needed,” he said.
As the head of the youth service center, Humphrey also called attention to the challenges he faces in this position.
Humphrey explained that he usually wants to do more for students but he only has so many resources available.
Humphrey also sponsors the Men and Women of Boone honor societies, which he uses to mentor younger kids in the Florence school cluster.
Both groups currently advise students at Yealey Elementary.
“The Women of Boone are a lot more about body image, understanding yourself, and accepting transitioning into 6th grade and middle school,” Humphrey said. “I know it benefits a lot of young ladies all the way from seniors down to 5th grade girls.”
Humphrey also addressed the goals he has for the future for the Youth Service Center.
“(Humphrey wants to) keep coming up with great and meaningful programs that hit all of our pillars for the youth service center, trying to strengthen that family connection with our diversity since our school has grown so much with different ethnicities and religions,” he said.
Humphrey’s leadership and commitment to these initiatives will hopefully enhance student services and have a positive impact on the school community.
