If any part of you is debating taking journalism here at Boone, do it. This class is like no other, and it fills you with memories you will never forget.
As the current Editor in Chief and longest running Rebellion staff member, I can say with full confidence that this class is the main reason I loved my high school experience.
When my older brother and former Rebellion staff member, Cole Waymeyer, suggested that I take this class, I was very hesitant. But, I trusted him and my love for writing, designing, and talking.
And let me tell you, if there is one thing that makes me wish to become a super senior, it’s this class. But, I suppose it’s time for me to move on and go to college.
Advisor Lance Melching has become one of my biggest supporters and motivators. While my perfectionist personality may have irritated him, a lot, I hope that I have impressed him with my growth over the past four years.
I never could have imagined having a teacher as supportive as Melching, and he is constantly pushing me to do more because he sees more potential in me, I think.
The Rebellion staff has become my family; each year I get more cousins, and lose some, but don’t worry, they just graduate.
First, there is a girl who started as a stranger and quickly became a best friend, Grace Robinson. I met her in my freshman year, and ever since she graduated during my sophomore year, I have missed her like crazy.
Fast forward to my senior year, my time to leave, and the year with the most memorable experiences.
Looking back at this year, I know for a fact that the people I met in the class are the reasons that I struggle to accept the fact that I have to walk across that stage.
This year I met a very eccentric person, Avery Lawless, and now I realize that there are not enough words in the dictionary to describe him. But I can tell you that he is without a doubt one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, and even though he’s told me countless times that he won’t miss me, I regret to inform you that I’ll miss him.
The class can also help you see different sides of your classmates.
I’ve known Alex Ostigin since freshman year, and I never spoke to him until he walked through the door to our journalism classroom. I almost regret waiting till junior year to talk to him, but at least my playlist didn’t suffer harsh criticism for those years.
Another person that created tons of memories is the 2025 senior Class Clown herself, Adelaide Wiesner. I’ve known Wiesner since sophomore year, but this year she became one of my best friends, and the one person that can make me smile at any moment.
I know I can’t just sit here writing shoutouts, unfortunately, but just so it’s clear… There are so many noteworthy individuals that this class has introduced me to, and I will be forever grateful to those people.
If you have not been convinced to take journalism, let me leave you with this: as a freshman I was practically mute. I never spoke to anyone and didn’t know if I would ever find friends.
Now as a senior, I am a professional yapper, as you can tell, and have so many people to reach out to.
Although I will not pursue journalism as a career, I have so many skills that no other class could have taught me, and will include them in my day to day life.
I never expected one class to give me over 20 new skills for my resume.
Melching has created a world of opportunities for my fellow classmates and me, and I can’t imagine what high school would be like without having this class.
It is definitely crazy to think that I came to Boone with one goal: get out soon. Now I’m leaving with an entirely new goal: savor every moment, because I will never have an experience like this again.
