Going first grade through sophomore year at one school and then suddenly changing schools junior year was a hard transition to go through. The change was needed though.
I was driving 15-20 minutes every morning to a school that I didn’t want to go to at all. No matter how hard I tried, I never fit in with the students and I felt as if I did not belong.
Sitting by myself at lunch freshman and sophomore year was not what I wanted. One summer night in 2023, I finally convinced my mom to let me switch schools and come to Boone.
The first day I walked into school, I was lost and confused about where to go; this school is way bigger than I thought it would be. With multiple hallways and staircases, it almost felt like a maze.
Everyone was so welcoming and helped me get to my classes, and a few people were shocked to see that I finally moved schools.
Once I got here, I saw potential to make myself better than I was at my previous school. I got offered to join the dance team, but I had never really danced.
I decided to take the opportunity and do something because my friends wanted me to, but I ended up falling in love with it and having a really close relationship with all the girls. Being a part of the dance team made me so much happier.
Full dedication to that team and also having amazing friends really made me start enjoying going to school. YoungLife clubs and hangouts are what I used to look forward to every Wednesday.
When I got to the beginning of senior year, I decided I wanted to be more involved in things. I decided to do journalism, swim team, and senior board along with still being a part of the dance team.
My old school wouldn’t even give me a chance to prove that I was good enough to at least try swimming. If I had made the team, I would’ve been swimming for five years instead of one.
I’ve always loved writing and wanted a way to share my ideas and opinions with others, and thankfully journalism allowed me to do that. Since I shared my stories, I have gotten texts and emails from people saying how good my writing is.
Without Boone, I wouldn’t have been able to be a part of these amazing teams, and I wouldn’t have met some of the people I call my best friends to this day. Thank You Boone.
