Daniel Court, Boone’s new head football coach, is ready to show kids that football is fun with lessons and impacts that go beyond the field.
“(Football is) more than just a sport to play,” Court said. “It is building for your life as a whole. You’re becoming a much more well-rounded person … You’re learning about adversity and how to overcome adversity.”
He called football “the ultimate team game” because one person’s success helps other people be successful, and he said it is fun to compete alongside teammates trying to win a game.
“It also helps you build relationships with other people that might not have the same background as you, that might not come from the same elementary and middle schools a you, and have a different culture from you, and you’re learning about all these different people and you’re learning to work together for the betterment of the team,” Court said.
He said that football also teaches student athletes that things will not always go their way, and that they need to have a positive attitude and keep working hard.
For Court, football is about more than adversity and hard work. It’s also about fun.
He said the team will have fun by doing games and competitions in the offseason that get as many kids involved as possible.
When it comes to the season, Court said the goal is to get as many people as possible on the field and to get the football in as many people’s hands as possible.
This will be Court’s first time being a head coach, but he said he gained a lot of experience from his previous jobs at Scott High School, Newport Central Catholic High School, and Highlands High School.
Many of the past jobs he had in football coaching, he was able to learn from the other coaches he worked with.
Court said he was able to see how other coaches operated and the time and effort they put in to help develop young boys and turn them into young men.
He said he learned how to build relationships and “build kids up,” and how to make student athletes not just better football players, but also better people.
Court’s ideas and philosophy of coaching put him in a good position to be the new head football coach and to take on the challenges and obstacles that come his way.
For anyone interested in football, conditioning is ongoing and official practices begin in mid July.
